Adobe Photoshop Lightroom is a digital darkroom that will organise your photos, polish them to perfection with some exceptional editing tools, then help you share your favourites with the world. New v5 features include a one-click perspective correction tool, while an enhanced healing brush allows you to heal or clone with brush strokes.
A new radial filter allows you to apply your preferred Lightroom image adjustments to a circular mask, which can then be resized or feathered to produce a more natural effect. A Smart Preview option helps you work remotely from your original images. Lightroom 5 can create smaller versions of these files, called Smart Previews; if you're disconnected from the source images then you can work on the Smart Previews, instead; and when you reconnect, the program can reapply all your edits to the original pictures.
Elsewhere, more capable photo book creation includes book templates which you can customise to suit your needs. And it's now possible to combine video clips, images and music to produce your very own HD video slideshow. This allows you to quickly share your synced collection with friends, family, and clients using Lightroom web - Comments and likes left on Lightroom web now sync to the Lightroom desktop catalog. It doesn't look like a major update, but Lightroom 5 has still gained some very welcome new features.

So, now I am also reading about this Creative Cloud. Is this mandatory to sign up for to be able to use LR5? If so, why would I do this instead of simply purchasing Photoshop?
Hi Heather, thanks for your comment… Here are all the answers , written for someone who had similar questions. Is this correct? It does so with ease and Lightroom always retains the original photo. Lightroom photos can sync up and share directly to your Adobe Portfolio where you can build a photography website in minutes. Tutorials could use an improvement by being integrated into the program itself as they currently they exist in video format only. Still, Lightroom plays well at its specific role in the Adobe suite of products and should appeal to any photography buff wanting to wrangle their ever-growing collection.
When digital cameras and smartphones first came on the scene, you had to be cognizant of the photos you took because of storage limitations. You could only fill up that SD card with a couple hundred hi-res shots before another trip to the electronics store for a second. Now with the advent of cloud storage and huge solid state memory drives we find ourselves at an interesting crossroads of efficiency: as something becomes more efficient we tend to use more of it. This holds true for photography now.
Lightroom accepts that challenge. Curious users can give it a shot using a 7 day free trial. Throughout the review there will be parallels to Photoshop and this is the first sign that Lightroom plays a much different role.
